(Star City. It's an oddly quiet night. A man is walking through the city, with a bag of groceries, while drinking a fountain soda in a Styrofoam cup. He enters the bunker, the hideout of Team Arrow.)
Man: Anyone here? Oliver: Just me and Felicity right now, Stan. Man (Stan): There was a line at the grocery store, or I would have been back sooner. Oh, and you don’t have to worry about any tabloids. None of them have anything based on the leaked photo. Felicity: Which Curtis and I managed to discredit. Stan: Of course you did. Where's everyone else? Oliver: Rene and Quentin are at City Hall, Curtis is working on more T-spheres Dinah's at the precinct, and John's at home with Lyla and JJ. Stan: Considering the burden you've just thrust upon him, I guess a little family time will be good for him. Oliver: I was just about to go to the hospital to check on Thea, before going home to William. Stan: She'll wake up soon enough. She's tough.
(Elsewhere in the city, a small group of thieves are trying to steal from a jewelry store.)
Thief 1: Hurry it up. We don’t want to end up being a target for Robin Hood. Thief 2: I'm going as fast as I can. Voice: Pretty sure it's passed business hours. Thief 1: We've got company.
(The thief takes out a knife. The voice belongs to a figure, who comes out. It's hard to make out what he's wearing, because of the dark.)
Figure: A knife, huh? Thief 1: Why let the Green guy know where we are? This is nice and quiet. And just as dangerous as a gun. Figure: I disagree. Thief 2: Maybe we should just take what we already got and get out of here? Figure: Sorry, but you're not going anywhere. Except maybe to jail. Thief: This coming from someone who came to a knife fight unarmed. Figure: I don't need a weapon to take either of you down.
(The figure positions himself into a fighting stance.)
Thief 1: We got us a regular Karate Kid here. Well, try and wax on was off this.
(The thief charges at the figure, knife first. The figure, in one swift movement, is able to deflect the knife, making the thief drop it, and hit the thief with an open palm strike into the chest really fast. Back in the bunker...)
Felicity: Alarm going off at a jeweler store about five blocks from here. Stan: I can handle this alone. No need to call in anyone else.
(Stan dons a brown outfit, similar to Oliver's, and grabs a crossbow. before heading out.)
Felicity: Overwatch online. No police heading to the scene yet, Bolt. Stan (Bolt): If we're lucky, I'll get there before them.
(At the jewelry store, the second thief backs up from the figure.)
Thief 2: Look man, I didn't want to do this anyway. He made me. Figure: If that's true, you should've stood up for yourself.
(The second thief pretends to be scared, getting onto his knees, but he actually pulls out a crowbar from his bag, and tries attacking the figure. The Figure dodges.)
Figure: Really?
(A motorcycle pulls up to an alley near the store. The Bolt gets off.)
Bolt: Overwatch, I’m just around the corner. Didn’t want to come up on them to loudly. Ruins the element of surprise. Felicity (v/o): Just like your BFF.
(The Bolt loads his crossbow, and heads towards the store entrance. Inside, the figure has already dispatched the second thief. Both of them are knocked out on the floor. The figure then looks for something to tie them up for the police, and finds some rope the jewelers use for their bags. He uses the ropes to tie their arms and legs together.)
Voice: Looks like I’m either too late, or just in time.
(The Bolt aims his crossbow at the figure.)
Bolt: It all depends on whose side you're on? The law's, or your own?
(The figure looks in Bolt's direction.)
Figure: Well, I'm not a cop, but I'm not a criminal either.
(The figure starts to walk closer to Bolt. He has his hands up.)
Bolt: A new vigilante in town, huh? After what we've dealt with over the past year, I can't be too cautious. Figure: I go by the name Kenpo. Bolt: Like I said, I can't be too cautious. We had someone we thought was one of us betray us. Kenpo: All I want to do is help this city. The Green Arrow gave me the inspiration two years ago. I've been training until I was ready. Bolt: I'll let you go, for now. But if I find out you're more of a threat than these two, you'd better watch your back.
(The Bolt lowers his crossbow.)
Kenpo: To be honest, I could probably be a threat from my battle prowess, but not towards anyone trying to save the city. Bolt: We'll see.
(The Bolt leaves, heading back to his bike. Kenpo waits until Bolt is gone, then looks for a piece of paper in the store. He writes a note for the police - "There's more than one batch of vigilantes trying to save the city. I'm one of them. - Kenpo" The Bolt returns to the bunker.)
Stan: Remind me to tell everyone there's another vigilante in town. Felicity: You mean aside from the one in the ski mask? Stan: Yeah. Calls himself Kenpo. Must be a martial artist. I think Yao Fei once mentioned that was a fighting style. But that was a decade ago. I could be misremembering what he said.
(Meanwhile, Kenpo has left the jewelry store. He plans to patrol a little longer before heading home. In the moonlight, his wardrobe is clearer. He seems to be wearing a traditional karate gi, all black, and he has a black cloth bandanna for a mask. Someone approaches him from behind.)
Voice: I like the way you handled things. I could use a man like you on my team.
(It's Black Siren. Kenpo turns around.)
Kenpo: And you are? Siren: Someone with big plans for this city. Ones which don’t involve anyone whose into archery, if you know what I mean. Kenpo: Wait a minute, I know you now. (pauses) Didn't you die? There was a statue of you and everything. Siren: That's not me. That's someone who's like me, but not like me. Kenpo: Right… So, what kind of plans are you talking about? Siren: Taking over. Kenpo: I see. Sorry, that's not what I want to do. Siren: Too bad. For you.
(Black Siren unleashes a sonic attack on Kenpo. Kenpo doesn't know what's going on, as he's knocked backwards.)
Kenpo: You… must be one of those metas I heard about. Siren: The name is Black Siren. Remember that, because once I’m in charge around here, you'll be just as hunted as Green Arrow and his bunch of losers.
(Black Siren leaves. Kenpo watches her leave. He tries getting back up to his feet. The next morning, members of Team Arrow arrive in the bunker.)
Diggle: Never let it be said the terrible twos were misnamed. Stan: JJ acting up? Diggle: Keeping me and Lyla up half the night. Hasn’t been his bad since he started sleeping through the night. Stan: Makes my night seem uneventful. Met a new vigilante last night. Calls himself Kenpo. Says he was inspired by Oliver. Voice: You met him, huh? Stan: Good morning, Dinah. Yeah, I did. Dinah: He left us at note at the jewelry store. Stan: So I won’t have to hunt him down after all. Probably for the best.
(Stan checks his crossbow.)
Stan: Curtis, you think you can whip me up a new scope. This one must have taken a few too many bumps. It's not staying aligned. Curtis: If I have time after working on these T-Spheres. Stan: If not, I can take a trip over to Central City. I’m sure Cisco will be glad to help.
(Almost directly above the bunker, a young man around the age of 22 is jogging around the block on his morning run. He stops around where the jewelry store is. He smiles to himself, before he goes back to jogging. Stan exits the bunker, heading to a nearby Big Belly Burger. He isn't paying attention to where he's walking, however. The young man nearly runs into him.)
Man: Sorry, I was thinking of something else. I should've watched where I was going, since I'm the one jogging. Stan: No, I should have watched where I was going. I was just thinking about someone, someone I wanted to marry, but didn't get the chance to. Man: Wait, you look familiar to me. (pauses) I think I remember seeing a picture at my dad's work when I was young. But that couldn't be you. It was a long time ago. Stan: Did your father work for Bishop Manufacturing? That was my father's company. Man: Wait, you're Stan Bishop? I heard on the news that you were missing when Oliver Queen went missing. Strange coincidence that you two came back around the same time. Stan: Not really, we both ended up on the same island. We just arrived in different ways. He arrived after a shipwreck, and I arrived after a plane crash. Man: I guess that makes sense. Sorry, I should introduce myself. I'm Pete. Pete Lawson. Stan: Nice to met you. Was your father still working for the company when my parents died? Pete: No, he died over ten years ago. Stan: Then he didn't have to worry about the downsizing the board did after my parents died. They would have run the company into the ground if not for Walter Steele buying it and making it part of Queen Consolidated. Pete: You might've known my father, though. Carl Lawson. He was one of the supervisors of the Starling branch since I was born, up until he passed. Stan: My father probably would have known him. I never really had much interest in the company, even though Dad wanted me to take over when he retired. Although, I do remember Dad coming here for a funeral before my plane crash. That might have been your father's. Pete: Yeah, it might've been. Well, it was nice meeting you, Mr. Bishop. I should finish my jog. Need to head home and check up on my mom. Stan: I was on my way to grab a bite to eat, then head to the cemetery. To visit the person I was thinking about. Pete: So that's what you meant. Sorry for your loss. Maybe we'll run into each other again. Hopefully, next time, not literally. Stan: Yeah.
(Pete starts jogging away from Stan. Stan heads onto Big Belly Burger. After eating, he buys some flowers, and heads to the cemetery.)
Stan: Hey Laurel. I know it's been a while since I’ve been here. We've been through some crazy things over the last few months. And your doppelganger showing up is the least of it. Your Dad's doing OK. He's staying on the wagon, especially since he's Oliver's deputy mayor. Oliver's having a rough time right now. He's having to raise his son, now, and Thea's in a coma.
(Stan places the flowers on the grave.)
Stan: I miss you, Laurel, more and more with each passing day. I'll be back before too long. I promise.
(Stan leaves, heading back to the bunker. Once he arrives...)
Rene: What's up, hoss? Stan: Not much. Just visited Laurel's grave. Something I hadn’t done since before Lian Yu. And must you call everyone hoss? Rene: You'd rather I call you Little Joe?
(Stan just shakes his head. Meanwhile, at a small apartment about a block away from where the Arrow bunker is, Pete has come in from his jog. He heads into his room to change. After awhile, he exits the room, and heads into the kitchen to start making breakfast. Pete's mom, Mary, comes in.)
Mary: Good morning, Pete. Been up awhile? Pete: Yeah. I just finished my morning run. Was going to make us breakfast. Mary: I wish your father was still around to see this. He never thought you'd make a good cook. Pete: Well, I don't think I'm that good of a cook, but I'm trying. Mary: That's all anyone can ever do.
(Mary turns on the TV.)
Reporter: With the photo alleging that he is the Green Arrow having been proved fake, Mayor Queen is ready to return to dealing with city business. Pete: And there's goes that riddle unsolved for Star City. Although, considering how Green Arrow helps the city, I don't think it really matters who he is. Mary: That must be the reason he wears a mask. Like that fellow in Central City. Pete: Unlike Flash, though, Green Arrow doesn't seem to be a metahuman. Mary: You know, my grandfather, your great grandfather, was into archery. He wanted to try and make it to the Olympics. The one thing that stopped him from making it there was World War II. Pete: That sounds like really bad timing.
(Pete finishes making breakfast. He puts the food on two plates, then sets them both on the table, before sitting down.)
Mary: This smells delicious. Pete: I hope you like it, Mom.
(Pete starts eating. Mary also starts eating. Back in the Bunker...)
Felicity: The city seems so quiet right now. Stan: Only because the son is out. Wait until it sets, something will happen. If you want action during the day, maybe see if Barry needs your help. Felicity: I’m sure STAR Labs would love to have someone with my skills. Stan: But you'd miss the action here. I'd thought about moving back to Coast City more than once, but, I'd miss suiting up and taking down the bad guys. Felicity: Well, I may not be moving to Central City, but I will be heading there in a few weeks. Stan: Any particular reason. Felicity: Yeah. Iris' bachelorette party. Stan: I guess Barry knows how busy Oliver is as mayor, but you think John and I would have gotten invites to the bachelor party. John: If we had time. You never know when Black Siren will strike again. Stan: You'd think she'd go after me, because of my connection to our Laurel. Rene: Be careful what you wish for.
(Later that day, at Pete's place, Mary is getting ready for work, while Pete is also getting ready to leave for his work, where he teaches martial arts.)
Pete: I'll see you later tonight, mom. Mary: Hopefully, my shift at the hospital won’t be too busy. Pete: Don't worry about me if it is, though. I'll be fine. Mary: I know you will.
(Mary leaves for Star City General Hospital. Pete also leaves for his work. As Pete heads for the dojo, Stan leaves the bunker, heading to City Hall, to have lunch with Oliver.)
Stan (thinking): I wonder where we'll eat today, With Oliver being the mayor, we can get a table anywhere in town.
(Hours later, it's become dusk. Pete has arrived back home. He looks to see if Mary is home yet.)
Pete: (thinking) I guess she's probably working late.
(Pete goes to get changed. Team Arrow is all in the bunker.)
Felicity: It's quiet. Diggle: Too quiet. It never stays this quiet this long after sunset. Stan: I know. Makes me worry something big is about to happen. Curtis: I can send T-Spheres out to look for signs of trouble. Diggle: No, we need to conserve our resources, in case we need them.
(Meanwhile, Pete has changed, wearing a karate gi. He grabs his makeshift mask and puts it on, becoming Kenpo, then leaves the apartment via the fire escape. A large truck stops outside the First national Bank of Star City. But they aren’t making an after hours deposit.)
Figure 1: I don’t see why we had to come all the way from Central City. Figure 2: Because there isn't a guy who can outrun the truck here. Figure 3: No, we just have to worry about getting hit with arrows. Figure 2: That's why we robbed that Mercury Labs warehouse. These weapons are more than an archer can handle.
(As the three robbers enter the bank, back at the bunker...)
Felicity: Silent alarm tripped at the first national bank. Stan: Told you it wouldn’t stay quiet. Diggle: Let's move.
(Team Arrow moves out, heading for the bank. By the time Team Arrow arrives, the robbers have started working on opening the vault.)
Wild Dog: Sorry, After Hours withdrawals are with through the ATM, not inside. Figure 2: Take care of them while I work on the vault door.
(The other two robbers reveal the advanced weapons they store from Mercury Labs. One is a sonic blaster that could give Black Canary a run for her money, and the other is a laser.)
Green Arrow: Never seen anything like those before. Mr. Terrific: I saw something like them online. Prototypes revealed by Mercury Labs in Central City.
(The sonic blaster is fired. green Arrow, the Bolt and Wild Dog drop their weapons from disrupted balance.)
Black Canary: Two can play at that game.
(Black Canary lets loose her canary cry, but a blast from the laser knocks her backwards.)
Green Arrow: Make sure she's OK.
(After a few moments, a figure enters the room, using what it can for cover. The figure is Kenpo. He's trying to sneak up on the robbers. The Bolt retrieves his crossbow, and fires at the sonic blaster, knocking it out of the thief's hands. He makes no indication of anyone else in the bank. At least, not right away.)
Bolt: We've got you outnumbered, 2 to 1. Figure: What are you talking about? There's five of you and three of us.
(Kenpo comes out of hiding, giving the robber with the laser weapon a quick side kick, knocking him down.)
Kenpo: You have your back open to attack. Mr. Terrific: Who's that? Bolt: Kenpo. We met last night at the jewelry store. Kenpo: I suggest you surrender.
(The second robber turns the gadget he's using on the vault door towards the heroes. It's a plasma cutting torch.)
Figure 2: Everyone back away, or I see how well this cuts through limbs. Kenpo: I have a better idea. Either you drop the torch, or I drop you.
(Kenpo moves into a fighting stance.)
Figure 2: You think I’m scared of a Karate Kid wannabe? When I’ve got this?
(The robber starts cutting through a desk, like a hot knife through butter. The figure aims the cutting torch at Kenpo.)
Figure: one squeeze of this button and you're a one armed man. Kenpo: Let me ask you the same question. Do you think I'm scared of you? Figure: I don’t have to cut you. I could cut a load bearing column and bring the roof down on you, along with Robin Hood and his merry men over there.
(Bolt is already loading his crossbow, ready to disarm the remaining robber, if Kenpo can't do it.)
Kenpo: That's only if you can make the move before I disarm you, and take you down. And I don't see that happening. Figure: What, are you secretly The Flash?
(Kenpo says nothing. Instead, he makes his move quickly, attacking with the intent to disarm. The robber gets one quick squeeze on the button. Not enough to cut through anything significant, but it could cut through some cloth. Kenpo disarms the robber, and the cutting torch ignites for a split second, cutting a bit of his makeshift mask that's dangling behind him, since it's mostly a bandanna.)
Green Arrow: Now that was impressive. Bolt: I’ve never seen anyone who wasn't a metahuman move that fast.
(Kenpo looks back at the others.)
Kenpo: I guess now we can let the police handle them. Bolt: Those were some moves you've got. Kenpo: I've been training my art for almost 10 years. Bolt: About as long as I’ve been using this.
(Kenpo looks over at Green Arrow.)
Kenpo: I'm not sure if it's just the lighting, but you look different. Green Arrow: It's just the lighting. Wild Dog (whispered): He's good if he can tell the difference in here. The lights aren’t even on. Mr. Terrific (whispered): Yeah. Kenpo: I guess it being dark can play tricks on you. I could've sworn that you were shorter. Green Arrow: Optical illusions. Kenpo: I guess so. Well, it was nice meeting you. All of you. (to Green Arrow) You were the one that gave me inspiration to do this. I'm not sure if your crossbowed friend told you that. I mentioned it last time we met. Bolt: No, I didn't mention it to him. Wild Dog: You know, with Spartan gone, we could use another hand? Green Arrow: That's not your decision to make. Kenpo: What's he talking about? Green Arrow: Nothing. Kenpo: Now that you mention it, I do see someone missing here. I guess that makes sense, considering something like this probably doesn't need all of you here for it. Mr. Terrific: Uh, yeah. Kenpo: (looks at Mr. Terrific) Awesome costume, by the way. You must be a fan of Terry Sloane. Mr. Terrific: I am. He's my inspiration.
(Me Terrific pauses.)
Mr. Terrific: Wait, how could you tell that in this light? I can't even read the Signs on the wall. Kenpo: Okay, you guys got me. I can tell, because I trained my eyes to see better in the dark. It's why I can tell that Green Arrow looks different. Bolt: Almost as impressive as night vision. Felicity (over comms): SCPD is two minutes out. Green Arrow: Roger that, Overwatch. (to the others) The police will be here in two minutes. Kenpo: I guess that's all of our queues to skedaddle. But first, we should tie the robbers up so they can't escape. Mr. terrific: Leave that to me.
(Mr. terrific launches a T=Sphere, that stun all three robbers.)
Mr. Terrific: They won’t be waking up until the cops have them in cuffs. Kenpo: That's cool. Mr. Terrific: Yeah, one of my little secrets. Green Arrow: Let's move. We don’t want to be here when the police arrive. Kenpo: I think I'll follow you guys, at least until we're out of here. Bolt: Good idea. These three might not have been alone.
(Team Arrow heads out of the bank. Kenpo follows them. They all head to a nearby rooftop, to watch as the police arrive at the bank.)
Black Canary: That was a good night's work. No money was taken from the bank. Mr. Terrific: This might not have been about money. I saw an article in the paper this morning. This bank is holding a shipment of gold, to be transferred to Ft Knox. Kenpo: Sounds to me like this might not be over, then. I mean, only three robbers for such a big heist? Bolt: If they came from Central City, they wouldn’t necessarily know about the gold. Wild Dog: Or the gold is just the reason they came all the way from Central City. Kenpo: Who says that they're not from here? Either way, I think they might be working for someone. Green Arrow: Their weapons. They were stolen from mercury Labs, in Central City. But, if they are working for someone, who? Bolt: That's one question we all wish we had an answer for. Kenpo: I'm not sure, but I did have a visitor the other night, after I ran into Bolt at the jewelry store. Bolt: Anyone we know? Mr. Terrific: How would he know that? Kenpo: Well, she looks like Laurel Lance. The one that had a statue. Green Arrow: Black Siren. Bolt: She's not from around here. Which is why she looks like our fallen comrade. Kenpo: Well, all I know is that she's a meta. She used her power on me, after she tried to coax me to join her, but I refused. Bolt: You might not believe this if we told you where she's from. Kenpo: Considering how she looks like Laurel Lance, she told me she's "not her, but she's like her", I'm going to guess she's some sort of doppelganger. Bolt: Yes, and no. She's Laurel Lance, from a parallel Earth. Kenpo: Wait, there's multiple Earths? Did I just walk into an episode of Sliders? Mr. Terrific: Man, I miss that show. Bolt: Yes. There are. If you've seen any news from Central City, you'd have seen stories of interdimensional breaches opening up. Kenpo: That was two years ago. That other speedster named Zoom showed up, and Flash fought him. Green Arrow: Zoom came from Earth-2. The same Earth as the Laurel you met. Kenpo: So is that basically opposite Earth? Bolt: It's not quite an opposite. Things just happened differently there. According to The Flash, Atlantis is a popular vacation spot there. Kenpo: Interesting. Felicity (over comms): I think I’m getting some information related to your playmates from tonight. Security camera footage from Mercury labs. Six people stole prototype weapons from them. Two of them were caught. Green Arrow: Roger, Overwatch. Looks like there is one more of them somewhere. Kenpo: You mind if I tag along until we get this settled? I'm already basically in this already. Bolt: The more, the merrier. If we knew where Number Four was.
(An explosion is heard, coming from the Glades.)
Kenpo: Either we just got our answer, or something much worse is happening tonight. Green Arrow: Move out. (into comm) Any idea what's going on in the Glades? Felicity (over comm): Alarm tripped at a PalmerTech facility, One that used to be a QC facility, and before that, it was Bishop Manufacturing facility.
(Bolt quickens his pace.)
Kenpo: (to the others) Is there a reason why he's moving faster than normal? Green Arrow: He just wants to get this done so we can head home.
(Of course, Bolt's pace is because his father's company once owned that facility. This is personal for him, to honor his father's memory. Kenpo doesn't think that's the reason, but he ignores it while they head off for the Glades. After about fifteen minutes, they arrive at the facility.)
Mr. Terrific: Don’t know why they chose to rob this facility. PalmerTech has other facilities with more dangerous products. This one made compasses and gauges for airplanes. Kenpo: Airplanes? Mr. Terrific: Yeah. Mostly sold to Ferris Air in Coast City. Kenpo: I don't remember hearing of PalmerTech doing much with airplanes, though. Mr. Terrific: They don’t. This is a facility they acquired when they bought Queen Consolidated. Bolt: And before that, this was owned by Bishop Manufacturing. Green Arrow: So, what is PalmerTech using it for? Mr. Terrific: I wish I knew. Must be some sort of government project. Top Secret. Kenpo: Bishop Manufacturing? Hmm…
(Kenpo looks at Bolt for a moment, wondering something.)
Wild Dog (to Kenpo): You know this place? Kenpo: Not really. I kind of knew Bishop Manufacturing. That's kind of a long story that isn't important at the moment. Green Arrow (whispered to Bolt): You know any back way in? Bolt (whispered): No. I never came here with Dad. Kenpo: I guess we probably shouldn't go in all at once. Green Arrow: You stay out here with Wild Dog and Black Canary. Mr. Terrific, Bolt and I will go inside. Kenpo: Sure.
(Kenpo looks at Bolt again for a moment. Green Arrow, Bolt and Mr. Terrific head into the facility,)
Green Arrow: So, were you making up that Top secret part? Mr. Terrific: Partially. It seems this is where Ray Palmer keeps spare parts for his ATOM suit. Public record lists that as Top Secret. Bolt: Not that he's been here in a while to pick them up.
(They pass by a picture of Stan's father.)
Mr. Terrific: So, that’s your Dad, huh? Bolt: Yeah. This company meant as much to him as Mom and I did. He probably would have fired the Board of Directors if he knew they would sell it to a larger company. Dad said if he was going to sell to anyone, it would have been to Ferris. Since they bought most of what we made. Green Arrow: That's the past, now. Let's focus on the here and now.
(They approach what would have been the supervisor's office. There's a light on inside.)
Green Arrow: Be ready for anything. This guy could have something dangerous from Mercury with him. Mr. Terrific: I could always kill the power. Green Arrow: No, Then he'd know we're here and be ready for us. Bolt (into Comm): Overwatch, can you hack into the security cameras. Mainly in the vicinity of the supervisor's office. Felicity (v/o): Can Oliver split an arrow? Bolt: I’ve never seen him try that. Felicity: Oh. Well, uh, the answer for me is yes.
(After a few moments.)
Felicity (v/o): Ok, one perp, sitting at a computer. There's some wicked looking device within reach of his right arm. Might be a weapon. Bolt (Into comm): Can you tell what he’s doing on the computer? Felicity (v/o): The camera's good, but not that good, Bolt: If Dad was still in charge, he would have made sure the cameras will state of the art. Felicity (v/o): Ray probably has the good ones focused elsewhere. Oh, he's leaving the computer. Getting ready to leave the office. Green Arrow: We're ready.
(Green Arrow and Bolt load their weapons, to surprise the intruder. As the office door opens...)
Bolt: I don’t think you're on the cleaning crew.
(The intruder fires. The weapon he has fires a beam so powerful, that, even though the three of the dodge it, it rips a hole in the side of the building.)
Kenpo: I think we might've found out what that explosion was coming from earlier. Wild Dog: You think?
(Inside, Bolt fires, hitting the intruder in the hand. He drops the weapon, which starts humming.)
Mr. Terrific: That can't be good.
(Mr. Terrific looks at the weapon.)
Mr. Terrific: It's worse than I thought. Dropping it started this thing building to overload. It's going to blow in five minutes. Green Arrow: Grab him, and head for the exit
(Mr. Terrific knocks the intruder out with a T-Sphere Green Arrow and Bolt carry him out of the building. They make it out right before the weapon explodes.)
Kenpo: Whoa. Black Canary (in to comm): Arrow, Bolt, Terrific, you guys alright? Green Arrow (v/o): We're fine. Made it out just in time. And we’ve got a prisoner for the SCPD.
(Bolt sees some rope nearby, and uses it to tie up the intruder, before punching him in the stomach.)
Bolt (Thinking): I'm sorry, Dad. I let your plant get destroyed. Kenpo: I guess they're okay? Black Canary: They made it out of there in time. Wild Dog: I'd hate to be the owner of this place, even if they had insurance. Kenpo: I'm sure he'd hate it too.
(Kenpo thinks to himself. Bolt, Green Arrow and Mr. Terrific return to the roof.)
Green Arrow: Let's hope that's all the excitement for tonight. Kenpo: Well, it was nice working with all of you. Give my regards to Overwatch, and "Spartan" if you see him. (pauses) Or maybe I'm already talking to Spartan.
(Kenpo looks at Green Arrow.)
Green Arrow: You do have keen eyesight. Wild Dog: You know too much. I guess we have to get rid of you. Kenpo: Oh, I'm sure I know a lot more than that, isn't that right… Stan?
(Kenpo looks at Bolt.)
Bolt: How did you know? Kenpo: Because we already met.
(Kenpo takes his mask off.)
Bolt: Pete? Green Arrow: You met him? Bolt: This morning. His father was supervisor here, before Mom and Dad died. Pete: And I had the feeling this place was personal to you when you started rushing to get here. And Mr. Terrific basically gave me the hint I needed when he mentioned Bishop Manufacturing. Mr. Terrific: Oops. Green Arrow: Well, you know that much. You might as well come back with us and meet everyone. Pete: Sure, just as long as it's not for too long. I need to get home before my mom is off her shift at the hospital. Bolt: We won’t keep you out all night. Pete: Alright then.
(Pete puts his makeshift mask back on.)
Bolt: Follow us. Green Arrow (into comm): Overwatch, we're heading back. With a guest. Felicity (v/o): I'll set out the good china. And let Oliver and Quentin know. They just got here. Green Arrow (into comm): Roger that.
(The team and Kenpo arrive back at the bunker. There's no one to be seen.)
Green Arrow: Overwatch? Bolt: Maybe she went to get some coffee. Green Arrow: Maybe. (to Kenpo) Welcome to The Bunker, as we call it. Kenpo: This is really weird. Bolt: We're used to it.
(Bolt unmasks.)
Stan: It's not even our first headquarters, Kenpo: No, that's not what I meant. My apartment is like a few blocks from here. Stan: Convenient, if you want to join us.
(Green Arrow unmasks.)
Diggle: John Diggle. Formerly Spartan.
(Kenpo takes his mask off again.)
Pete: Pete Lawson.
(The others unmask.)
Rene: Rene Ramirez. Curtis: I'm Curtis Holt. Dinah: Dinah Drake, Lt Drake, of the SCPD, to most. Pete: Nice meeting you guys, officially.
(Footsteps are heard, from the back of the bunker.)
Diggle; The rest of the team is here. Voice (modulated): Welcome to the Bunker.
(Oliver, Quentin and Felicity are in the shadows.)
Pete: Uh, thanks…
(Pete is looking at their direction.)
Pete: Mayor Queen?
(Oliver removes the voice modulator.)
Oliver: You have remarkable eyesight. Ever considered taking up archery. Stan: You might also know Deputy Mayor Quentin Lance. And that's Overwatch. Felicity: Not that I was born with that name. Outside of mission communications, I'm Felicity. Pete: Deputy Lance. And yeah, I know who you are, Ms. Smoak. You use to run PalmerTech. I was getting around to both of you, I just noticed the Mayor first. Oliver: Well, I am the most famous man in Star City. Pete: In more way than one, right Green Arrow? Or you used to be, I'm guessing. Oliver: You're right. I was. I only gave the identity to John a short time ago. To protect my son. Pete: Probably because of the FBI hassling you, I'd imagine. Don't know why they can't see what good you and the others do in the city. Oliver: You probably know I've spilled a lot of blood in doing so. All of them were involved in some form of criminal activity, whether the public knew it or not. Pete: Yes, but that is the past. I've seen what you've done since then as Green Arrow. You don't shoot your arrows to kill people. Oliver: That was to help honor the memory of a friend. I couldn’t keep killing, after losing him. Pete: Well, when you stood up as Green Arrow a couple years ago, it helped inspire me. I've already been training in my martial art for over 10 years, but I decided when I saw your speech on TV that day that I'd train myself to help people in some way. I started doing this not long ago, only after I made sure I was ready. Oliver: Well, if I'm your inspiration, I'm honored. I never wanted anyone else to help me, but, as you can see, that didn't last. Stan: Oliver and I have known each other for just over a decade. We met on an island called Lian Yu. He arrived there after his father's yacht was sabotaged, and I arrived after my plan crashed. Which may also have been sabotaged. Pete: So then I was initially right when I brought it up before, then. Both of you must have trained your talents since your wrecks. Oliver; Indeed. Stan: And we've both had losses, since returning home. Oliver lost his friend Tommy, his mother, and the mother of his son. And I lost the woman I wanted to marry. Who I met thanks to Oliver. Pete: Who is the one you were meeting this morning, right? Stan: Yeah. I hadn't visited her grave in a while. Pete: Would this woman, by any chance… be the original Black Canary? Stan: Yes, she was. Although, not the first Canary. Her sister was the original Canary, Laurel just added Black to the name. Pete: I guess that makes sense. Was she a meta, then? Or is that just her Earth-2 counterpart? Stan: Just her counterpart. Laurel used technology. Invented by a friend in Central City. Pete: I see. Oliver: I need to get home to William. Diggle: I doubt there's going to be much else happening tonight.
(Oliver leaves.)
Diggle: Well, Pete, how'd you like to join us? Rene: I don’t know about that. You sure we can trust him? Curtis: Rene has a point. Dinah: He foiled a jewelry store robbery single handedly. And look how he helped us tonight. Pete: I'd like to join you guys, and I know some of you might have some trust issues with me, considering how I haven't said that much about myself. But I want to earn the trust of everyone here. All I want to do is help this city, and I know being with you guys will be much better than going at it alone. Stan: It's three votes to two for him joining us. Quentin: Don’t expect me to vote. I just help out. You don’t see me running around with a mask on. Pete: Not every hero wears masks, Mr. Lance. You know more than anyone, since you were a cop. Stan: He's got a point, Quentin. Quentin: Well, if he took down those robbers, like you said, I say he's in, Pete: That was pretty much my second time going out after I started doing this. And if my outings are going to be escalating like that, with the criminals getting better stuff, it's definitely safer to have backup. Stan: Strength in numbers. Pete: By the way, I noticed you guys have some pretty awesome masks. Do you mind if I get one? I'm kind of using one I made myself. I was lucky that robber tonight didn't cut the mask off with that torch. Felicity: I'll see if we can get you one here sometime tomorrow. Pete: Thanks. And I also imagine if I'm joining, that I'll need one of those communication devices you guys are using, unless of course I'm just probationary, and if so, it's fine. Felicity: It's better for you to have one so everyone can stay coordinated. Curtis: I'll work on that first thing in the morning. Rene: There's something that I've been wondering. Did you say you lived with your mother? Pete: Not exactly. It's more like she lives with me. It's my apartment. Stan: Even though the company is no longer in my family, I still have some shares. I can see if your father had any benefits that you and your mother are owed. Pete: It's okay. I think she and I both feel safer if we lived together. Especially with how the city has been. Really not that safe to live alone, unless you can take care of yourself. Stan: Well, if I can help out, the two of you may be able to move to a better apartment. I know there's a vacancy in my building. I inherited Laurel's apartment, since we were living together. Pete: It might be more strategic if we just stay where we are at the moment. I mean, since we live so close to the Bunker, as you guys call it. Stan: Good point. Felicity: Maybe I can hook you up with a PalmerTech security system, at a substantial discount. Pete: You still have friends there? I mean, I heard you were voted out, or something. No offense. Felicity: I still have a few friends who owe me a few favors over there. Pete: Maybe it might not be a good idea to get one of those just yet. I don't want to get my mom suspicious of having something that's potentially expensive installed at our apartment out of the blue. Stan: Of course. Felicity: Got it. Pete: Especially since, my job doesn't really pay that well to begin with. The only thing I could do is maybe introduce Stan to my mom, and then eventually we could say that Stan offered to pay for the alarms. It would make it less suspicious that way, if only because of the connection Stan would share with me and my mom through his parents. Stan: That could work. I could come by sometime tomorrow. Pete: If you can, make it around lunch time. My mom is usually sleeping late in the morning due to having a graveyard shift at the hospital. Stan: I usually meet Oliver for lunch, but, I’m sure he can delay his lunch break for a while. Pete: Well, I did say around lunch time. Just as long as it's not too late. I can meet you outside the apartment building. My job is usually during the day, so I can come back around lunch time myself. Curtis: Exactly what is it that you do? Pete: Oh, I'm an assistant instructor at the dojo where I learned my martial arts. Stan: Sort of paying it forward. You learned there, and now you're making sure others can learn there, too. Pete: Yeah, pretty much. Stan: If more people did that. Maybe we wouldn’t be so busy around here every night. Pete: That would be nice, but obviously not realistic. But regardless, I do what I can to help. Stan: Maybe I could use a few lessons, for close quarters combat. I can't use a crossbow for every situation. Pete: Seeing as who you are, though, I'd imagine it would be just as suspicious going to a dojo to do so. If you want, I could teach you some moves here in the Bunker when we have off time. Stan: Alright. Pete: If anyone else wants to learn, too, it's no big deal with me. Diggle: I learned everything I need to know for a fight thanks to Uncle Sam. Rene: I’m good, hoss. Curtis: Oliver's been teaching me, but, most of the time, I rely on my T-Spheres. Pete: Uncle Sam? So you're a vet. Now I'm more honored to meet you than I was before. Veterans should be given respect for what they do for this country. Diggle: Glad to see some people still think that.
(The next day, Stan waits near Pete's building, drinking from a small bottle of soda. (Not long afterwards, Pete arrives from work on his lunch break.)
Stan: Hey Pete. Pete: Hey. I hope you weren't waiting for long. Stan: Only five minutes. I've waited longer while having lunch with Oliver. Pete: Well, he is the Mayor. I can understand him being late. Stan: Actually, one of them was before he was the Mayor. Had to wait an hour for him. Pete: Ah. Well, come on up.
(Pete leads Stan inside. Stan throws his empty soda bottle into a recycling bin, as he follows Pete. Pete and Stan reach Pete's apartment. Pete unlocks the door and heads inside. Mary is in another room.)
Mary (v/o): Home for lunch already? Pete: Yeah. I brought a friend.
(Mary comes in from her bedroom.)
Mary: Hello. Stan: Hello, Mrs. Lawson. I'm Stanley Bishop. Pete and I met the other day. He tells me your late husband used to work for my father. Mary: Yes, he did. Thirty years for Bishop Manufacturing, the last ten as plant supervisor. Pete: I met him the other day when I was on my morning jog. I figured I'd ask him to come by for lunch the next time I met him. Mary: I was so sad when I heard about what happened to your parents. Your father was kind enough to come to my husband's funeral. Stan: Yes, that was shortly before my plane crash.
